"But about that day and hour no one knows, neither the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father."
(Matthew 24:36 NRSV)

Matthew writes in 24:40, "Then two will be in the field; one will be taken and one will be left." Many people interpret this passage to mean those who are "taken" are those who have been raptured. Being taken for Matthew meant that people will be gathered into the community of God, just like some where gathered into the ark. Some will be saved and some won't. Those who have the living Christ in them will be apart of God's great community of faith. But, life also goes on. Work must continue on in the fields.

Even though life goes on we must be ready. Matthew writes in 24:43-44, "But understand this: if the owner of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an unexpected hour." The message for us today is clearly telling us to be ready.

Loving God, may I always be ready to be a part of your heavenly kingdom. Amen.
