He also said, "The kingdom of God is as if someone would scatter seed on the
ground, and would sleep and rise night and day, and the seed would sprout and grow, he does not
know how.
The ad was run by a company called Cards From Heaven in Fairport, New York. The thrust of
the card was that before you die, you arrange to have sent to your "loved ones" on special
occasions after your death, a beautiful card--for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and anniversaries, but
not for Halloween. For example, the "Happy Birthday" card says: "On this special day of your
life, take joy in the fact that those of us who have gone on before would give anything to be in
your shoes."
Well, it's an interesting idea. But I wonder if the sample birthday card is right. I wonder if those
on the other side WOULD give anything to be in our shoes?
God's heavenly kingdom is more wonderful than we will ever imagine. How about becoming a
part of God's kingdom today?
(Mark 4:26-27
NRSV)
In 1992 this ad appeared in Yankee magazine: "Just think . . . You passed away months ago . . .
and yet on every occasion that is important to those you left behind, and on their birthdays, they
receive a beautiful card expressing your warm and loving thoughts to them."
Dear Jesus, bring me close to God's kingdom, and may I be faithful in sharing it. Amen.
