Faith apart from works is barren.
"For this very reason, you must make every effort to support your faith with goodness, and
goodness with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with endurance, and
endurance with godliness, and godliness with mutual affection, and mutual affection with love," (2
Peter 1:5-7).
(James 2:20
NRSV)
If we are not growing in our relationship with Christ, it is probably because we are not paying the
price of loving one another. The child in the nursery who does not accommodate himself or
herself to others remains emotionally immature. So it is within the family of Christ. When we take
responsibility for a ministry of encouragement and inclusion, we find ourselves becoming more
like the Master.
God of peace, may your love empower me to love with mutual affection. Amen.
