Blessed are those who trust in the LORD, whose trust is the LORD. They shall be
like a tree planted by water.
The prophet Jeremiah is talking about nourishment in our lesson for the day. He tells us that the
person who trusts in man is like a shrub in the desert; he shrivels up and dies. But the person who
trusts in God is like a tree planted by the water; he is nourished, refreshed, in continual contact
with the source of life and renewal. He doesn't have to fear drought or heat, for he is connected
to a never-failing source of sustenance.
We have nothing to fear if we are connect God's presence.
(Jeremiah 17:7-8
NRSV)
Since we are talking about getting the proper nourishment, today, I thought I would share with
you eight dieting tips that I picked up recently. Tip 1: If no one sees you eat it, it has no calories.
Tip 2: If you drink a diet soda with a candy bar, they will cancel each other out. Tip 3: Calories
don't count if you eat with someone and you both eat the same amount. Tip 4: Food taken for
medicinal purposes does not count. This includes toast, hot chocolate, and Sara Lee chocolate
cake. Tip 5: If you fatten up everyone around you, you'll look thinner. I hope you find these tips
helpful. They work for me!
Dear God, may I draw myself closer to you each day. Amen.
