Because he himself was tested by what he suffered, he is able to help those who are being tested.
(Hebrews 2:18 NRSV)

Have you ever heard of a vessel called a bathyscaphe? It is two-person submarine-like apparatus designed to probe the depths of the ocean. It is an armor-plated bubble equipped on the inside with oxygen, dials, gauges, and levers to operate arms and lights on the exterior. On a recent mission, it descended into the Pacific Ocean with two scientists aboard determined to probe depths never before entered by humans. The goal was to determine whether life could exist in a world without light; a world where surrounding water pressure was so great it would crush a human being like a sparrow under a front tire.

Thus the tiny vessel bumped on the bottom of the ocean miles below the surface. The scientists on board flicked on the exterior lights and then gasped. They discovered life--abundant and amazing life of all kinds. How could such fragile creatures survive where water pressure was so massive? The answer is obvious: the pressure inside each of those creatures is equal to the pressure outside.

We face all kinds of pressures in life, but, when Christ lives in us, the pressure in us will be equal to the task.

Dear God, help me to be a pressure reliever through Christ who strengthens me. Amen.
