The light shines in the darkness.
That's why January is a good time to read the first chapter of John. "In him was life, and the life
was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it."
The light John is describing, of course, is Christ.
Will you send someone today a message of Christ's light, hope and love?
(John 1:5
NRSV)
Did you know that January is the best month of the year for mail order companies? That is why
your mail box is so full this time of year. It seems strange. You would think that coming on the
heels of the free-spending Christmas season, January would be a dismal time for any kind of
commerce. But not mail order. Some people say it's because of the short, dark days of winter and
people being confined to their houses. A piece of mail brings hope. It brings light. It gives us a
chance to do something for ourselves.
Dear God, I am very grateful for the light of Jesus Christ that shines in my heart. Guide me in
sharing that light with someone in need today. Amen.
