"Look, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall name him
Emmanuel," which means, "God is with us."
The Christmas story is, however, different too. Mary and Joseph experienced a miraculous
conception. The Bible says Mary was "with child"--a child conceived by the Holy Spirit. In Isaiah
we read, "Hear now, you house of David! Is it not enough to try the patience of men? Will you try
the patience of my God also? Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be
with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel."
Jesus was a miracle. Jesus was a gift. Jesus was "God is with us."

Number 7: "I finished the Oreos."
Number 6: "Y'know, looking at her, you'd never guess that Pamela Lee had a baby!"
Number 5: "Well, could they induce labor? The 25th is the Super Bowl."
Number 4: "Whoa! For a minute there, I thought I woke up next to Willard Scott!"
Number 3: "I'm jealous! Why can't men experience the joy of childbirth?"
Number 2: "Are your ankles supposed to look like that?"
Sometimes we forget that Mary had many of the same problems, pains, and cravings that our
modern day mothers have.
God of peace, thank you for the gift of peace that lives in me. Amen.
