Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to
you, 'Give me a drink,' you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water."
Christmas it the season of children, family, the star of Bethlehem, baby Jesus, wise men, giving
and receiving, but most importantly it is about God's greatest gift to us. What will you do with
that great gift?
(John 4:10
NRSV)
I saw a cartoon where the father said to his three children, "I'll tell you about the star of
Bethlehem." One of his little girls jumped up and said, "We know who he was--baby Jesus!" You
never know what a child will say. We also will never know when Jesus will come knocking on our
door.
Loving God, it is easy to get a lot of warm fuzzes during this season, but there is a price to pay
for accepting your gift. Yes, your gift is free, but truly accepting your gift will cost me greatly.
Help me, with great sacrifice, to honor your gift of a savior. Amen.
