"But about that day and hour no one knows, neither the angels of heaven, nor the
Son, but only the Father.
I read once about a typo in a church bulletin at Christmas bulletin that said, "The choir will sing 'I
Heard the Bills on Christmas Day." We certainly we need to be ready for pay for the expenses of
this season, but more important we need to be prepared for Jesus to come into our lives. Then we
will be ready for the time when we will be called to go home to our heavenly kingdom.
(Matthew 24:36
NRSV)
Matthew says to us today, "But about that day and hour no one knows, neither the angles of
heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father." Matthew's declaration is very clear. We need to be
ready for the time when Jesus will come to take us home to God. There will be no warning. There
won't even be a reminder in the mail. Jesus doesn't even know when our time will come, so we
must be ready.
Dear God, with the inspiration of the season, may I prepare my heart for Jesus and your heavenly
kingdom. Amen.
