Pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in
Christ Jesus for you.
"Why are you saying your ABC's so many times?" she asked him.
The child replied, "I'm saying my prayers."
The woman couldn't help but laugh. "Prayers? All I hear is the alphabet."
Patiently the child explained, "Well, I don't know all the words, so I give God the letters. He
knows what I'm trying to say."
Many of us may not pray because we don't know what to say. Do your best like this boy did and
God will get your important message!
(1 Thessalonians 5:17-18
NRSV)
There is a wonderful story of a woman who was walking through the woods one day, she was
surprised to hear a child's voice. She followed the sound, trying in vain to understand the child's
words. When she spotted a boy perched on a rock, she realized why his words had made no
sense: He was repeating the alphabet.
Dear God, hear my wordy, unpolished, jumbled, and ungrammatical prayer. Amen.
