The Rock, his work is perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God, without
deceit, just and upright is he.
God isn't like that. In Deuteronomy 32:4, Moses called God "the Rock." A leading insurance
company uses a huge rock in their marketing. It's the image of something unchanging and solid.
That's how it is with God's faithfulness. Our goal should be to be as consistent as God is
consistent.
There is a story of a high school girl who met a new boy who had just moved to town. He seemed
lost at his new school, so she went out of her way to be nice to him. He was impressed with her
kindness so he asked her for a date. She accepted, then after school she highlighted her hair,
painted her nails, put on new eye shadow, false eyelashes and colored contact's. As she finished
she thought to herself, "Tonight, he's going to see the real me!"
I wonder how many people ever see the "real us"? Our greatest thanksgiving to God is when we
are faithful in our character.
(Deuteronomy 32:4
NRSV)
Moses told the children of Israel that God's character never changes. Many people seem to
change their personalities like some animals are able to change their color.
Dear God, may my character be one that will honor you. Amen.
