So we have known and believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and those
who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them.
What would life be without such occurrences? Dull, that's what. So, we laugh. It is
natural, instinctual. As long as we humans remain flawed and imperfect, and as long
as God sees fit to bless us with His Grace, we will laugh. As John F. Kennedy said:
"There are three things which are real: God, human folly, and laughter. The first two
are beyond our comprehension. So we must do what we can with the third."
(1 John 4:16
NRSV)
Joseph Felix, in his book, IT'S EASIER FOR A RICH MAN TO ENTER HEAVEN
tells about one of those quirky instances that makes life worth living. The Roman
Catholic diocese of Spokane, Washington, and Blue Cross insurance company got
into a little tiff sometime back over a possibly unnecessary extra charge on the
insurance policy for the diocese. The sixty-six priests on the policy were being
charged an extra thirty cents each per month for maternity benefits. Now that's what
I call the "mother of all mistakes."
Dear God, thank you for the joy of knowing your reality. Amen.
