He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way.
We are sometimes like terrible-tempered Lucy in the "Peanuts" comic strip. Lucy comes into the
room where Linus is watching TV. He says to her, "I was here first, so I get to watch what I
want." Without a word Lucy marches to the set and flips the channel to her program. Linus
protests. "Hey!" Assuming her best know-it-all stance, Lucy intones, "In the 19th chapter of the
book of Matthew it says, `Many that are first will be last, and the last first.'" Linus's response to
this paradox sounds like something you or I would say. He mutters, "I'll bet Matthew didn't have
an older sister!"
It is important that we be humble. No, we shouldn't let people walk all over us. Yes, we need to
stand up for what it right. However, we are no better than anyone else, especially in light of what
Jesus Christ has done for us.

(Psalms 25:9
NRSV)
Humility is a quality that is out of favor in most quarters nowadays. We are more attuned to
winning through intimidation.
Dear God, humble me so that I may be more effective in doing your work. Amen.
