For it is as if a man, going on a journey, summoned his slaves and entrusted his
property to them.
Now put yourself in the place of these servants. They had a choice to make, didn't they? They
could have said, "While the cat's away, we will play." Or they could have carried on with their
responsibilities. You and I can't relate to servants. But we can imagine being teenagers whose
parents have gone away for a holiday. These teenagers could party, party, party, and hope they
can get the house put back in order before their parents get back, or they could act responsibly the
entire time. Either way they would need to decide how to allot their time. Jesus was concerned
about the use of our time.
How about tithing your time to do God's work?
Ronald Newhouse, Texas, USA
(Matthew 25:14
NRSV)
Jesus was concerned about how we manage our time. He told about a landlord who was leaving
on a trip. He left his servants in charge of the estate. The servants did not know when the master
would return. All they knew was that they were to have the house ready when he did.
Prayer: Dear God, thank you for the time you have given me. Help me to use it wisely in
honoring you. Amen.
