Daily-Devotions--A Few Moments With God
Monday, August 9, 1999

Thus the scripture was fulfilled that says, "Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness," and he was called the friend of God.
(James 2:23 NRSV)

As Snoopy of the Peanuts cartoon strip says: "A kiss on the nose turneth away wrath."

Having friends helps, too. A study was conducted of 7,000 people who suffered such cataclysmic diseases as cancer or vascular problems. The essential finding was this: those who enjoyed a strong support system of friends and family survived at a much higher rate than those without such a system.

All of us have people who are very special to us. You may not know my friends and I might not know yours. We certainly have different family members--mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers. But there is one Friend all of us have. That's Jesus. If we will let him, he will be the best friend any of us will ever have.

Prayer: Dear Jesus, thank you for being my best friend. Amen.
