make my joy complete: be of the same mind, having the same love, being in full
accord and of one mind.
(Philippians 2:2
NRSV)
If we give the time to do this, it will surprise you how much the circle of your fellowship can be
enlarged. For us to "be of one mind" can only bring us to great victory in our efforts to reach our
community for our Lord Jesus. As we are one, they may see that Jesus and the Father are one.
There was a cartoon in Leadership magazine showing a preacher and a couple of disgruntled
parishioners bowing their heads to pray together. The pastor looks at the two men and says,
"With our current hard feelings, would anyone mind if I prayed with my eyes open?"

"Be of one mind" does not call on us to think alike. Rather it is a call for us to search for the
common ground, to emphasize the things that we have in common. It is a call on us to give
loving consideration to the point of view expressed by a friend, and an earnest attempt to
understand why he/she feels the way he/she does about the matter.
Prayer: Dear God, help me to find common ground with those who love you. Amen.
