But as for that in the good soil, these are the ones who, when they hear the word,
hold it fast in an honest and good heart, and bear fruit with patient endurance.
(Luke 8:15
NRSV)
We played those kind of games because we know that we are in the process of becoming
someone else, a grown up. The Bible tells us that even after we become adults we should still be
in the process of becoming--becoming like Jesus. But we don't have to wait until we are a certain
age to do that, do we? We could invite Jesus to come into our hearts and start living like that new
person right now. That's much better than pretending. We can actually become someone
else--someone who belongs to God.

How many of you dress up as someone else when you were a kid? Of course we put on costumes
for Halloween, but sometimes we may have dressed as a cowboy or we may put on our mother's
or father's clothes just for the fun of it. In fact we may not wear any costume at all, just our
regular clothes, but in our imagination we may have pretended that we were someone else. That
was fun, wasn't it?
Prayer: Dear God, help me to not pretend to be a Christian, but guide me daily to
become more like you. Amen.
