Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the

Most of us believe that it really does matter what a person believes. At the same time, few of us
would consider ourselves sophisticated theologians. In fact, most of us are really not very
interested in church doctrines. One of the most confusing doctrines of our faith is the
Trinity--Father, Son and Holy Spirit. It is a part of our faith that we treasure, but we wish it was a
bit easier to comprehend. And if we had to explain its meaning to a non-believer, it would not be
easy.
And, really, that is how it should be. THERE ARE SOME ISSUES IN LIFE TOO BIG TO
UNDERSTAND. Aren't there? That's the first thing the doctrine of the Trinity says to us.
Nevertheless, God comes to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit to help us understand God's great
love for each and everyone of us.

Charles Schultz, the PEANUTS cartoonist, contributed a cartoon to a church magazine years ago.
The scene is a church youth meeting. Standing in front of the group is a teenage character
wearing a primitive, multicolored, witch doctor's ritual mask. The caption beneath the cartoon
read: "My program tonight is entitled, It matters not what you believe, only whether you are
sincere or not.' "
Prayer: Dear God, thank you for being my Father. Thank you for sending me a savior,
your Son. And thank you for your presence through your Holy Spirit. Amen.
