"Take, eat; this is my body."
(Matthew 26:26
NRSV)
There is a lot of grace that is offered to us through communion. Yet, it grieves me deeply that the
one thing that should unite all Christians is the most divisive. My wife and I attended a Marriage
encounter several years ago through another church denomination. We had a wonderful weekend.
We grew a lot in our love for one another. It was a mountaintop experience. The weekend was to
be capped off with Holy Communion. It should have been the highlight of our weekend, but we
where excluded because we were not members of the church hosting the event. We were crushed.
From that experience I have made it a point in my ministry to make sure people know that
everyone is welcome to take communion. After all, communion is a gift from God. From that
invitation, many people have come to me after worship to say I've had communion today for the
first time in many years. They were blessed, healed, and restored through communion with God
through Jesus Christ.

Jesus took a loaf of bread, and after blessing it he broke it, gave it to the disciples, and said,
"Take, eat; this is my body." Then he took a cup, and after giving thanks he gave it to them,
saying, "Drink from it, all of you; for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for
many for the forgiveness of sins." Jesus shared Holy Communion with his disciples, as they
celebrated God's presence in their lives.
Prayer: Dear God, fill me full of your love and grace as I celebrate Holy Communion.
Amen.
