But you are not in the flesh; you are in the Spirit, since the Spirit of God dwells in

The word in Greek and Hebrew for spirit is also the word for wind. How mysterious is the wind.
Wind is invisible, but we see the trees rustle as it passes by. It can be a gentle breeze on a warm
summer night, or come with the awesome sound of a tornado.
In the life of the church, as in yachting, no wind, no race. Without the spirit moving, we do not
move. Without the wind of the Spirit we get fogged in and get depressed. We have no power
unless it comes from God.

The famous Australian evangelist, Alan Walker, often tells when Australian sailing yachts defeated
the USA's l32 year grip on the prized America's Cup. In l983 Australia mounted a serious
challenge. After six races, the two yachts were deadlocked--three wins each. The whole world
woke up. Australia was alive with anticipation. We focused on the race. The day came. America
was in danger of losing the precious cup. Thousands watched. Television cameras were ready to
beam the race by satellite around the world. Crews were ready. Boats were polished. The yachts
pulled into place at the starting line. All was ready, but there was no race. There was not enough
wind. In yachting, no wind means no race.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, fill me and my church with your spirit. Amen.
