May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may
abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
(Romans 15:13
NRSV)
We are saved by Hope. The one blazing truth is, life is not hopeless! Paul saw sin, he saw the
state of the world, he saw the state of the human situation. He was a realist, but he also saw God's
redeeming power, and the end of it all for Paul was hope, and he declares it in Romans l5:l3.
Because of hope, Paul"s life is not lived in despair, waiting for the inevitable end of a world
rushing mindlessly toward death. Life is an eager anticipation of liberation, renovation, and
recreation which would be brought about by the glory and power of God.

Someone asked a teacher, "What is the difference between ignorance and apathy?" The professor
responded "I don't know and I don't care!" Every Sunday we celebrate God's answer to
apathy--the explosive power of the Holy Spirit. The Apostle Paul, in writing to the Romans about
these problems, said the world is waiting on tip-toe. Because the Holy Spirit comes to reveal the
glory of God the power of God!
Prayer: God of peace and hope, remind me daily, as one saved by Jesus Christ, that I
have hope! Amen.
