Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive
mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
(Hebrews 4:16
NRSV)
Do you remember the moments in your life where you experienced God's
love and grace? I remember the closeness I felt to Christ when I was
baptized in a muddy river in Darlington, Indiana. My life was forever
changed when Carolyn Jennings made Christ real to me and I invited Jesus
into my heart. I felt a great sense of connection as I completed confirmation
and became a member of the church. God's grace filled a big void in my life
when I was married to my wife Michele on June 1, 1991. And I felt God's
empowering touch as I was ordained as a minister. In each of these special
moments Christ became more real to me, I was drawn closer to God, and I
was empowered to share God's grace.
Another way to define the means of God's grace is to say that they are those
acts of worship, instituted by Christ and celebrated by Christians, in which
we are visited in a special way by God's Holy Spirit. Experiencing God's
grace is an important reason why attending worship every week is so
important.

Sacraments are a means of God's grace. Sacraments are times of corporate
worship using special rituals, symbolic rites, and liturgy to re-present Christ
and are a means of grace that nurture our growth in our faith journey.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for giving me God's grace. Amen.
