Which of these three, do you think, was a neighbor to the man who fell into the
hands of the robbers?" He said, "The one who showed him mercy." Jesus said to him, "Go and do
likewise."
(Luke 10:36-37
NRSV)
"What happened to you?" yelled the employee's impatient boss.
"I fell down a flight of stairs," was the reply.
"And it took you a whole hour?" the boss questioned.
There's not much compassion in this story. In one of Jesus' best-known parables, the good
Samaritan, Jesus showed us what it means to have mercy for one another. Jesus ends the parable
by saying, "Go and do likewise."
How is your compassion? Maybe we need to remember the great compassion God has for us
through our salvation in Jesus Christ!

Badly bruised and scratched, as employee staggered into work one hour late.
Prayer: Loving God, increase my compassion for all of your people. Amen.
