Some take pride in chariots, and some in horses, but our pride is in the name of the
LORD our God.
(Psalms 20:7
NRSV)
Father Henri Nouwen, "I love Jesus but want to hold on to my own friends even when they do not
lead me closer to Jesus. I love Jesus but want to hold on to my own independence even when that
independence brings me no real freedom. I love Jesus but do not want to lose the respect of my
professional colleagues, even though I know that their respect does not make me grow spiritually.
I love Jesus but do not want to give up my writing plans, travel plans, and speaking plans, even
when these plans are often more to my glory that to the glory of God."
May we learn to be proud of being a Christian.
Ronald Newhouse, Texas, USA
At a training event persons were asked to introduce themselves, tell about their jobs and share
something they were proud of. Out of thirty people, only one person said he was proud to be a
Christian. It's always easier to play it safe and not acknowledge that we belong to Jesus and that
we live our lives following his teachings.
Prayer: Dear God, with a sense of your humbleness help me to show my pride in being a
follower of your son. Amen.
