Finally, all of you, have unity of spirit, sympathy, love for one another, a tender
heart, and a humble mind.
(1 Peter 3:8
NRSV)
"No," replied the other woman. "That's the day I always let him sleep in."
Do you ever wake up grumpy? I know I do sometimes. But, we don't have to stay that way. And
we certainly don't have to take it to church with us were we will bring division.
Only a united church can do great things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. If people in the
church can't get along with one another or are grumpy, how can we expect people in the
community and people in the world to get along? Disagreements in the church send a negative
message to the community, including people who might be considering joining the church. "Why
would I want to be a part of that church?" someone might think. "All they do is fight with one
another all the time. I would be better off staying home on Sunday morning." United with one
focus there is no stopping the church of Jesus Christ. Together we in the church can accomplish
great things; divided the church will not accomplish much of anything.

Two neighbors were visiting one evening. One of the women asked., "After a long busy week, do
you ever wake up grumpy on Sunday?"
Prayer: God of unity, help me to bring unity to your church. Amen.
