The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a
good understanding. His praise endures forever. (Psalms 111:10
NRSV)
"Well, I stopped the car!" she announced with pride to the man.
"I know," the man replied, "I was pushing it!"
So often we act impulsively, giving little thought to the reasons for our actions or their possible
outcomes. Our impulsive responses can get us into trouble.
Try giving yourself a little distance from your emotions, stopping to think and pray before taking
action. Asking God to help you decide what to do, because, when we pray, we open every
moment of our lives to the wisdom and power of God.

There is a story of a woman who was walking across a parking lot. She saw a driverless car
rolling toward her. With unusual agility, she opened the door, got in, and pulled up on the
emergency brake. As she got out, a man with his shirt sleeves rolled up was among the fast-
gathering crowd.
Prayer: God of all, may my prayers open me more fully to your wisdom. Amen.
