Let us work for the good of all. (Galatians 6:10
NRSV)
Sometimes our attitude toward our work is more important than the work itself.
Thirty-two years ago Otis Coles was the bathroom attendant at New York's Club "21." In a
newspaper interview this is what he had to say, "I make the bathroom a happy place. That sounds
funny, I know, but it is God working through me." I believe Otis Coles is on to something. Any
job can be a calling from God--even cleaning bathrooms.
A man returned to a drugstore where he had purchased some mothballs the day before. The clerk
remembered the man and asked, "Did you get rid of the moths?"
"No!" cried the man. "I sat up all night throwing the balls at the moths, and I didn't hit a one!"
We may not throw mothballs at moths, but we act just as ridiculous when we don't allow God to
be an important part of our jobs and every other aspect of our lives.
Prayer: Dear God, please help me to allow you to be seen in my job today. Amen.
