For God did not give us a spirit of cowardice, but rather a spirit of power and
of love and of self-discipline.
"All you who like music, step forward two paces," the sergeant said. Six responded. "Okay," the
sergeant continued, "You get busy and carry that piano up to the top floor of the officers'
quarters.
No doubt those six volunteers were surprised at their task. Yet as disciplined soldiers, they did the
task before them, and they did it well.
We also need to be disciplined in our Christian walk. There is a tiny part of each of us that also
clings to our pride and self-righteousness, that screams out, "Don't repent, You have no need to!"
But, like a disciplined soldier, we must faithfully do the task that is before us, so our communion
with God will remain strong.
Prayer: Dear Jesus, through discipline you ended up dying for me. May my Christian
discipline move me to righteous and holy living. Amen.
