Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit
in the wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. (Luke 4:1-2 NRSV)
Part of our human experience involves temptation. Many have said that in order for Jesus to truly
be our savior, he had to experience all of our human emotions and feelings. Temptation is one of
those human experiences Jesus had to experience.
The problem is that there are simply too many temptations in life. Here are a few of them: Mae
West says that whenever she had to choose between two evils, she picked the one she hadn't tried
yet.
"If you're going to do something tonight that you'll be sorry for tomorrow morning," said one,
"sleep late."
A lawyer and his client are sitting in the law office and the client says to the lawyer, "The question
of right and wrong is very clear. I want you to cloud it up for me."
Yes, there is temptation all around us, but we don't have to give in to it.
Prayer: Forgiving God, help me to not be led into temptation, but help me to live a holy
life for you. Amen.
