No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the
lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. (Matthew 5:15
NRSV)
I remember reading a cartoon that showed a mother and her little boy visiting a museum of
modern art. They were standing in front of a painting entitled "Black on Black." The wise little
boy exclaimed to his mother, "Oh, look, Mommy, it lost its picture!"
Have we lost our picture? At times we may lose our picture, but Christ's light can help us get our
picture back into focus. And we can share Christ's love and light with others, so that they can also
regain a vision of their own picture of life and hope.

Christ gives us a light to carry into the world. There is light that floods a room and reveals that
which is hidden. There is light that shines as a reminder of eternal hope. There is another kind of
light. It is the search light of compassion and concern for people. It is a light of a loving God who
will not let us go. Christ's light comes into our lives when we ask for God's love and forgiveness.
Then we are called to allow God's light to shine through us.
Prayer: Dear God, help me to keep my focus on you. Amen.
