There will be signs in the sun, the moon, and the stars, and on the earth distress
among nations confused by the roaring of the sea and the waves. (Luke 21:25
NRSV)
Many times when I go to the hospital, I go with the attitude that I'm going to bring
cheer to the person I'm going to visit. In most cases, I'm the one who ends up getting
cheered up. It is amazing the great hope God's people cling to. It is the hope of a
better life to come in Jesus Christ.

In our scripture reading today, it says, "There will be signs in the sun, the moon, and
the stars, and on the earth distress among nations confused by the roaring of the sea
and the waves." The people of Israel waited expectantly for the Messiah and the
early church waited expectantly for Christ's return. The Christian life is an expectant
life. When we leave this life, we hold fast to the great hope and expectation of being
in the loving presence of God for all of eternity.
Prayer: Dear God of hope, help me to share your hope in Jesus Christ. Amen.
