For a child has been born for us, a son given to us; authority rests upon his shoulders; and he is named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6 NRSV)

John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that he gave his only son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life." What a great gift to be thankful for!

In a cartoon I saw a few years ago, the king is leaving the dinner table. He turns and says to his sorcerer's wife, "That was a fine meal, Blanch."

The sorcerer says, "Let us pause to give thanks."

The king asks, "You say grace after the meal?"

The sorcerer replies, "We're still alive, aren't we?"

We have much to thank God for! Are you alive with God's spirit? Does the savior live in you? Does this season have an important meaning for you?

God of peace, thank you for the Prince of Peace. In Jesus' name, Amen.
