Sing aloud to God our strength; shout for joy to the God of Jacob. (Psalms 81:1 NRSV)

The READER'S DIGEST has carried some delightful humor about aging. For example, one woman was quoted as saying that her 81-year-old mother is proud of the fact that she doesn't look her age. One summer day, however, her mother went into a drugstore and, talking about the heat, said to the clerk, "Going to be ninety-seven today."

The man reached across the counter, shook her hand and said, "Happy birthday." She took to her bed for a week over that comment, her daughter said.

Another woman wrote that a neighbor of hers in her 40s refused to wear her bifocals because she thought they made her look older. One day, however, when her neighbor stopped by, she had her glasses on. "How long have you been wearing those?" the woman asked.

"Since yesterday," was the reply. "As I was baking some tollhouse cookies I picked up the fly swatter and killed four chocolate chips."

But my favorite is about a 96-year-old-man who, on admission to a nursing home, was interviewed by a social worker. The alert, twinkling-eyed, 96-year-old man was asked, "Did you have a happy childhood?"

"So far, so good!" he replied.

May we have that kind of attitude as we walk with God and all of God's people.

Dear God, help me to have a good attitude today, so that I can be a good witness for you. In Jesus' name, Amen.
