Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb. (Revelation 22:1 NRSV)
Paul urges his fellow believers to live not "as unwise people, but as wise, making the most of the time." That makes sense, doesn't it? Most of us can agree that we need to live wisely. But the hard part is knowing how. What does it mean to live wisely? Well, if we are to live in a world with almost six billion other people, one good place to start would be to live with constraint.

We must be willing to place limits on our behavior. Bishop Fulton J. Sheen once said that the difference between a river and a swamp is that the river has borders and the swamp has none. Some people's lives are like a swamp--stagnant and going nowhere. Others are like a river, with fresh-flowing waters. And the difference is discipline.

Dear God, I understand that you know what I need, so teach me discipline that I may be a fresh-flowing river of your love. In Jesus name, Amen.
