God gives the desolate a home to live in; he leads out the prisoners to prosperity, but the rebellious live in a parched land. (Psalm 68:6 NRSV)
Home! The word evokes all sorts of memories: parents, brothers and sisters, holidays, getting ready for school, coming home from school, getting ready for church, Sunday dinner, birthdays, Christmas mornings, summer vacations, family excursions. Home!
An interesting clipping came to my attention the other day. It goes like this:
A fugitive is one who is running away from home.
A vagabond is one who has no home.
A stranger is one who is away from home.
A pilgrim is one who is on his way home.
One of my favorite nursery rhymes goes like this:
Little Bo Peep has lost her sheep and doesn't know where to find them;
Leave them alone; they'll come home, wagging their tails behind them.
Don't worry about the sheep, Bo Peep, they'll be back. The magnet of home will draw them. We want to go home. That's written on our hearts, and our home is with God.
Be at home with God today.
God of my heavenly home, show me ways I can be at home with you today. In Jesus name, Amen.
