Therefore encourage one another and build up each other, as indeed you are doing. (I Thessalonians 5:11 NRSV)
Some of you may remember a program years ago on television called "Topper." It was one of the better comedies in the early days of television. Jim Burns, in his book, RADICALLY COMMITTED, tells about one of the zanier episodes in this series.

Mrs. Topper wanted to train her husband to be nicer to her. She found a book titled HOW TO TRAIN PUPPIES and followed it exactly by substituting her husband's name for the puppy. So any time her husband Topper would do something nice for her, she would praise him and give him a treat. She would rub his neck like the book said to do for a puppy, and old Topper would respond! Things were going along great until one afternoon Topper found the puppy training book and read Mrs. Topper's notes in the book. Of course, disaster struck the Topper home. Topper didn't like the idea of being trained like a dog, so he immediately went back to his old ways. Yet, a major lesson was learned: there is power in encouragement. Whether it's with puppies or people, you can make a very important, positive impact in their lives through encouragement.

Where do you find encouragement? Where can you give encouragement?

Dear Jesus, give me the encouragement I need to encourage others with your agape love. Amen.
